When a player has none of his/her original letters left, that player says "PEEL" and takes a tile from the bunch. At this point ALL OF THE OTHER PLAYERS MUST ALSO TAKE A TILE FROM THE BUNCH and add it to their collection of letters.

At any time, and as often as desired during play, any player may return a difficult-to-use letter back to the center of the BUNCH, face down, but MUST TAKE THREE LETTERS IN RETURN. The player must declare this action to the other players by saying "DUMP". This exchange does not affect the other players.

Play continues until there are fewer tiles in the BUNCH than there are players. The first player with no remaining letters shouts "BANANAS" and is the winner of that hand. The other players may now inspect the winning hand for misspelled or incorrect words. Proper nouns are not acceptable. Any available dictionary may be used. If all words are acceptable, that player is the WINNER OF THAT HAND. If any word in the "winning" hand is found to be unacceptable, that player becomes the "Rotten Banana" and is OUT OF THAT HAND, and must return his/her letters, face down to the center bunch and the game now resumes for the remaining players.

"BEST OF?"
A hand can take as little as 5 minutes, so players, if desired, could play for the "best of five" or "the best of ten".
BANANA SMOOTHIE (For those who want to play a less hectic game)
All tiles are placed face down on the table The letters are divided equally among the players, remaining face down. Players then play the regular BANANAGRAMS game, but there is no "peeling" or "dumping". The first player to use all his/her letters shouts "BANANAS" and is the winner of the hand. If the game ends in a stalemate, the player with the fewest remaining letters is the winner.

Great fun for a wide range of ages September 8, 2010

This is our family's new favorite game. One of the great things about it is how small and portable the game is -- easy to take on vacation or anywhere you're headed. Our son takes it to school or work to play during breaks. It's a lot like Scrabble (a game we also love) except vastly more fast-paced and exciting. Each game lasts just a few minutes so you can play many rounds in a short time, giving everyone multiple chances to win. Highly recommended!

Bananagrams is one of those games that's fun for kids, adults, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. It's a fantastic game that spans the concept of a "recommended age" and provides not only an awesome fun time, but also can help develop spelling and word skills.
Bananagrams is portable and durable, the entire game fits into a cloth "banana" that's only about 6-9 inches long. You don't even need a pencil and paper to keep score - all that you need is a free surface. The game works well with almost any number of players, young and old. It's just as much fun one-on-one as it is with a group of six or seven. You can even play by yourself if you want!
The final thing I want to mention about Bananagrams is that every player is involved with the game at all times. There's no 'taking turns', and no down time. You're always playing, and trying to make words. It's a great game for restless kids who can't handle a game like Scrabble where you have to sit and wait for everyone else to make their words.

I have played this game with other adult friends and enjoyed it very much; I have also played with a 6-year-old using the tiles to spell out words she is learning. I liked bananagrams so much I bought my own game set after playing with a friend. If you enjoy scrabble/boggle/other word games, you will enjoy bananagrams!

Simple concept that totally works. Take Scrabble, lose the board, speed it up, and pit people directly against each other. You will catch yourself yelling "PEEL" and "DUMP" with such zeal that you will forget your playing a word game. The price may be a little high for a cloth banana pouch with scrabble letters in it, but the lack of a box does make it super portable. Just toss it in your pocket and go, which makes it great for family vacations and the like.
